Why can't I hear anything on my radio?
A silent radio can be caused by:
- The volume being turned down or accidentally muted
- Wrong channel selected (some may be inactive or unprogrammed)
- CTCSS/DCS tone mismatch between radios
- Faulty speaker mic or headset connection
- Radio is in scan mode but not stopping on active channels
Try this first:
- Turn up the volume knob and check for static
- Switch to a known active channel
- Disconnect any accessories and listen from the built-in speaker
- Ensure all radios are on the same channel and tone
- If using scan mode, try turning it off and selecting a channel manually
Why can’t I transmit with my radio?
If you’re pressing the button and no one hears you, common causes include:
- Dead or low battery
- Antenna not securely connected
- Transmit frequency or tone mismatch
- Mic not functioning properly
- Radio is locked or on a receive-only channel
Try this first:
- Charge or swap the battery
- Reseat or replace the antenna
- Double-check your channel and CTCSS/DCS settings
- Try a different radio or mic to isolate the issue

Why is my radio range so short?
Short range is usually caused by:
- Obstructions like buildings, hills, or heavy trees
- Using low power or indoor-mode radios outdoors
- Faulty or low-gain antennas
- Radios not using repeaters where needed
Try this first: - Move to higher ground or into line-of-sight if possible
- Make sure the radio is on high power mode
- Check the antenna for damage or looseness
